Web Development
Web developers turn a design into a working site, or build the parts a theme cannot do: a custom plugin, a members area, a booking form, a connection to another system, or a fix for a site that broke after an update. Some work only with WordPress, others write custom PHP, JavaScript or a framework such as Laravel or React. If your site already exists, a developer who is willing to read the code that is there is worth more than one who wants to start over.

Before you hire
When you compare developers, ask which platforms they know well, who owns the code when the work is done, how they test changes before they go live, and what happens when something breaks a month later. A written scope and a staging copy of your site save arguments on both sides. Each listing on this page was opened and checked by hand, and shows how the developer charges rather than a price that may be out of date.
